My current position is IT Manager in ITS, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This included Windows Servers, Windows Virtual Desktops, VMware, Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems, NetApp and Isilon storage delivering the compute clusters, storage subsystems, secure computing enclave, virtual computing laboratory, as projects dictated. Currently I am investigating cellular 5G and determining the University's direction for that technology

I have been ITIL Foundation certified since 2004, and re-certified in the current edition in 2016.

Prior responsibilities included assessing and remedying the Disaster Recovery Plan for ITS as well as managing the project to integate Duo authentication with Sibboleth. I was also involved in the projects to migrate our mail routing to Microsoft's Exchange Online Protection, and the project to migrate faculty and staff to Office365.

My previous role was Manager of the Enterprise Systems group of ITS, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This group consolidated all the Linux, Solaris and Red Hat system administration across ITS. The group currently manages in excess of 850 systems on IBM's Power platform, Oracle's Sun Sparc platforms and X86 platforms. These servers support Chapel Hill's PeopleSoft implementation, Oracle and MySQL databases, Blackboard and Sakai learning management systems, central Identity Management systems and various flavors of web stacks. The group is also responsible for delivering large portions of the www.unc.edu web presence and provides a centralized logging service based on syslog and Splunk currently managing approximately 120GB of log data per day.

Significant accomplishments:

Prior to accepting a full-time position with UNC Chapel Hill I contracted to the University through ettain group. UNC brought me on initially to provide Solaris 9 and Solaris 10 technical advice, mentoring, and architecting. I then moved to fill the role of Manager of the Information Management Group, which provided operating system support for Solaris, Linux and AIX. Other projects included creating a Unified Messaging Architecture as part of the planning for a Unified Communications strategy, and creating an interim Configuration Management process.

Previously I was a Senior Instructor for Exceed Education Services, where I delivered high-end Solaris courses, Sun Java Enterprise System courses, Sun Identity Manager courses, and others. I was responsible for the network infrastructure and all the systems.

Prior to Exceed, I was a Systems Architect - LDAP for Metlife, supporting Metlife's LDAP directory services. My responsibilities included directory design, implementation, and support for the nine LDAP directories running in 4-way multi-master replicated architecture on Sun Microsystems Directory Server 5.2.

I am ITIL Foundation certified, with experience in providing support in datacenters, large corporate offices, and small business covering a variety of platforms including Windows, Macintosh, and Unix. I have strong desktop, Unix, networking, and infrastructure skills. Have been in the IT industry for more than 20 years working primarily in multi-vendor environments, and have broad experience in the inter-operability of heterogeneous environments. I have also worked in secure computing environments, and have a high awareness of security issues and requirements including HIPPA, FERPA, and Sarbanes-Oxely.

I have excellent written and verbal skills and experience in technical management, technical support, and technical pre-sales. I am seeking a senior technical managerial role or senior technical role in the Research Triangle region of North Carolina.
